Summer is usually a busy time for our Operations team as they plan all the home to school transport ready for September and also for our Contracts and Performance Team as they have to publish and evaluate all the tenders and set the contracts up with our operators. But this year was exceptional due to the pandemic.
Our teams not only had to arrange transport for over 3,500 eligible school children, but also had to organise extra ‘shadow’ buses to keep non-eligible students separate from the general public on buses to school; our SXPs also resumed their patrols.
Our C&P team managed to publish and evaluate over 250 tenders and bids within an extremely tight timeline. In all, there were many weeks of detailed planning working closely with Cheshire East Council’s Education and Skills department, made even more difficult by the delay in government guidance being published.
